In order to create believable crime drama one of the first things you need to do is know your way around the elements related to the crime you are focusing on. For example, If you want to write a crime drama with a computer element, know the basic terms.
Here are a few to get you started
Hacker- a person that brakes into another person’s computer or network without permission to alter its contents.
Black hat- a person that violates the computer or network of another with the intent of producing negative results or to acheive personal gain.
White hat- these people provide security for major companies using their hacking abilities. Providing protection from illegal access.
Gray hats- people who gain illegal access to computers then admit to the crime and offer assistance in making sure the problem doesn’t occur again.
Script kiddies- these are people that surf the web in search of programs that they can launch and they don’t know what will happen.
Hactivist- these people break into computer systems make changes for political reasons.
Cyber Terrorist – these people hack into secure systems to cause damage or death the cause loss of services that cause severe negative affects.
Password grabbers and loggers- programs running on a person’s computer without their knowledge. Steeling passwords is their end game.
